Privacy & Cookie Policy

Applies to: worldsledger.com and all subpages  ·  Governed by UK GDPR

Plain English summary: This website does not use cookies. It does not collect, store, or share your personal data. There are no analytics scripts, no advertising networks, no social media trackers, and no third-party scripts of any kind. Your hosting provider may log your IP address as part of normal server infrastructure — this is covered by their own privacy policy, not ours. That is the full extent of data processing associated with visiting this site.

Section 1

Who We Are

This website, The World's Ledger, is an independent research and documentation project publishing infographics and analysis based on public UN records, expert testimony, and verified scholarship. It is operated by a private individual and is not affiliated with any organisation, government, or institution.

For the purposes of UK GDPR and EU GDPR, the operator of this website is the data controller. As this site collects no personal data directly, the data controller's identity is not required to be publicly disclosed. If you have a legitimate legal inquiry regarding data processing, you may raise it via the ICO (UK) or your national data protection authority, who have the power to require disclosure in appropriate circumstances.

Section 2

Cookies

This website sets one functional item: a preference record stored in your browser's localStorage to remember that you have dismissed the privacy notice banner. This record contains no personal data — only the value "1" against the key wl_consent_dismissed. It is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to any server.

Cookie name: wl_consent_dismissed
Type: localStorage (not an HTTP cookie)
Purpose: Remembers that you dismissed the privacy notice
Data stored: The value "1" — no personal data whatsoever
Expires: Until you clear your browser storage
Shared with third parties: Never

You can clear this at any time by clearing your browser's local storage, or by using your browser's developer tools. Doing so will cause the banner to reappear on your next visit.

No other cookies, tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts, or persistent identifiers of any kind are set by this website.

Section 3

Personal Data We Collect

We collect none. This is a static HTML website. There are no forms, no login systems, no comment sections, no newsletter sign-ups, and no interactive features that would require or result in the collection of personal data.

There are no analytics scripts (no Google Analytics, no Matomo, no Plausible, no Cloudflare Web Analytics, or any equivalent). There are no advertising networks. There are no social media share buttons or embedded social media content.

All fonts used on this website are system fonts (Georgia, Courier New) loaded directly from your device. No external font services are contacted when you visit this site.

Section 4

Hosting Infrastructure

This website is hosted on a third-party hosting platform. When you visit any page, your browser makes a request to that platform's servers. As part of normal server infrastructure, your IP address and basic request data (page requested, time, browser type) may be logged by the hosting provider.

This logging is carried out by the hosting provider under their own privacy policy and legitimate interest basis, not by this website. We do not have access to, control over, or any use of these server logs. Privacy policies for common hosting platforms:

Section 5

Lawful Basis for Processing

Since this website does not collect personal data, there is no personal data processing for which a lawful basis under UK GDPR Article 6 is required on our part.

The single localStorage item described in Section 2 does not constitute personal data processing as defined under UK GDPR or EU GDPR, as it contains no information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.

Section 6

Your Rights Under UK GDPR

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

Right of Access

You can request a copy of any personal data held about you. As we hold none, any such request would receive a nil return.

Right to Erasure

You can request deletion of your personal data. As we hold none, there is nothing to delete.

Right to Rectification

You can request correction of inaccurate personal data. As we hold none, this does not apply.

Right to Object

You can object to processing of your data. As we process none, this does not apply.

Right to Portability

You can request a portable copy of your data. As we hold none, this does not apply.

Right to Complain

You have the right to lodge a complaint with the ICO at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.

Section 7

Children's Privacy

This website does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or 16 in jurisdictions where that threshold applies). As no data is collected from any visitor, no special provisions for children are required beyond this statement.

Section 8

Changes to This Policy

If this website changes in a way that affects data processing — for example, if analytics or a contact form is added — this policy will be updated before those changes go live, and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly.

We recommend checking this page periodically if you visit the site regularly.

Section 9

Complaints & Supervisory Authority

If you are in the United Kingdom and have a concern about how your data is handled by any website or service, you have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):
